*Top 50 Target Species
The Andean Lapwing is found across high-altitude regions of Ecuador, typically between 2,700 and 4,600 meters, where it inhabits open páramo grasslands, shore meadows, and marshy clearings near freshwater lakes and rivers. Though generally uncommon, it is locally present and often seen foraging or nesting in exposed terrain, especially during the austral breeding season from October to December. The species is listed as Least Concern by the IUCN, with a stable population trend and no major threats identified despite its relatively small estimated population of 670–6,700 mature individuals. Natural history records highlight altitudinal movements during colder months, ground-nesting behavior, and a clutch size of three to four eggs, though details on incubation and fledging remain largely unknown.
