The Violet-bellied Hummingbird is a widespread resident in western Ecuador, occurring from lowlands up to about 1,500 m in humid forests, forest edges, and gardens. It is fairly common in suitable habitat, often seen feeding on nectar at flowering shrubs and occasionally taking small insects. The species is currently assessed as Least Concern by the IUCN, with stable populations despite localized habitat loss. Its dazzling violet belly and active foraging behavior make it one of the most striking and familiar hummingbirds of Ecuador’s western lowland and foothill regions.
