The Great Thrush is widely distributed along both slopes of the Ecuadorian Andes, where it inhabits humid montane forests, forest edges, and high-altitude shrublands typically between 1,800 and 4,000 meters. It is fairly common in suitable habitat and remarkably adaptable, often seen foraging alone or in pairs in urban parks, gardens, and degraded forest patches. The species is listed as Least Concern by the IUCN, with a broad Andean range and a stable population despite localized habitat pressures. Natural history observations highlight its large size, rich slaty plumage, and bold yellow bill and eyering, with nesting typically occurring in open cup nests placed in shrubs or small trees, though detailed breeding data remain limited.
