The Roadside Hawk is one of Ecuador’s most frequently encountered raptors, thriving in open woodlands, agricultural areas, and forest edges from lowlands to mid-elevation zones. It occurs year-round and is especially common along roadsides and clearings, where it perches conspicuously to hunt insects, reptiles, and small vertebrates. Despite habitat changes, it remains globally listed as Least Concern due to its vast range and stable population trend. Known for its vocal territorial displays and tail-wagging behavior, this species builds stick nests high in trees, with both sexes contributing to nest construction and chick care.
