The Long-billed Starthroat occurs in western Ecuador, where the subspecies albicrissa inhabits humid lowland and foothill forests, forest edges, and semi-open woodlands between roughly 400 and 1,500 meters. Though generally uncommon, it is locally present in suitable habitat, often foraging alone at mid-levels and favoring flowering trees like Inga and Erythrina. The species is listed as Least Concern by the IUCN, with a large global population despite a suspected slow decline due to habitat degradation. Natural history observations suggest a sedentary lifestyle, with solitary nesting on horizontal branches and a diet supplemented by aerial insect capture.
