The Buff-throated Saltator is a widespread resident in Ecuador, occurring from lowland forests and foothills up to about 1,800 m, favoring edges, secondary growth, and gardens. It is fairly common in suitable habitat, often seen in pairs or small groups foraging on fruits, seeds, and insects. The species is currently assessed as Least Concern by the IUCN, with stable populations across its range despite localized habitat loss. Its rich buff throat and melodious song make it a familiar and conspicuous member of Ecuador’s lowland and foothill bird communities.
