Thraupidae - Tanagers and Allies
The Yellow-bellied Dacnis occurs in eastern Ecuador, where it inhabits humid lowland Amazonian forests, especially in canopy and edge habitats below about 800 meters. It is generally uncommon and patchily distributed, often seen singly or in pairs foraging actively in the upper strata, and occasionally joining mixed-species flocks. The species is listed as Least Concern by the IUCN, with a broad Amazonian range and a population suspected to be slowly declining due to deforestation, though not at a rate that currently threatens its status. Natural history observations highlight its vibrant yellow underparts, red eyes, and insectivorous diet, with nesting behavior only recently described and still poorly understood.
