The Red-billed Parrot is a medium-sized, forest-dependent parrot found in Ecuador’s subtropical and montane zones, particularly on the eastern Andean slopes between roughly 800 and 2,400 meters. It occurs year-round in humid cloud forests and adjacent secondary growth, typically in small flocks that forage quietly in the canopy for fruits and seeds. Although its population is suspected to be declining due to habitat loss, it remains globally listed as Least Concern thanks to its broad range and relative abundance. Nesting in tree cavities, this species is known for its subdued plumage and social behavior, often joining mixed-species feeding flocks in fruiting trees.
