The Dusky-faced Tanager is a localized resident of northwestern Ecuador, confined to humid lowland and foothill forests of the Chocó region from near sea level up to about 1,200 m. It is generally uncommon but can be conspicuous where present, often moving in noisy groups through the canopy and frequently joining mixed-species flocks. The species is currently assessed as Least Concern by the IUCN, though extensive deforestation in the Chocó threatens its habitat and may cause local declines. Its dark facial plumage and lively social behavior make it a distinctive member of Ecuador’s lowland bird communities.
