The Purple-crowned Fairy is a widespread hummingbird in Ecuador, occurring from the coastal lowlands and Amazonian foothills up to about 1,200 m, favoring humid forests, edges, and clearings. It is fairly common and often seen darting energetically through the canopy or along forest borders, feeding on nectar from a wide variety of flowers and occasionally taking small insects. The species is assessed as Least Concern by the IUCN, thanks to its broad range and adaptability, though localized habitat loss may affect some populations. Its glittering crown and restless flight make it one of the more conspicuous and lively members of Ecuador’s hummingbird community.
