Rufous Wren

The Rufous Wren occurs along both slopes of the Ecuadorian Andes, inhabiting humid montane forests, elfin woodland, and Chusquea bamboo thickets typically between 2,000 and 3,500 meters. It is generally uncommon but locally present, often detected by its rich, musical song as it forages in small family groups near the forest floor. The species is listed as Least Concern by the IUCN, with a broad Andean range and a stable population that tolerates moderate habitat disturbance. Natural history observations highlight its warm rufous plumage, social foraging behavior, and preference for dense understory, though its nesting biology in Ecuador remains poorly documented.
