The Green Hermit is a widespread hummingbird in Ecuador, occurring along both Andean slopes from about 500 to 1,800 m in humid lowland and foothill forests, especially near streams and dense understory. It is fairly common in suitable habitat, often seen visiting long tubular flowers for nectar and occasionally taking small insects. The species is currently assessed as Least Concern by the IUCN, with large populations despite localized declines from deforestation. Its long decurved bill, lekking displays, and preference for shaded forest interiors make it a distinctive member of Ecuador’s hummingbird communities.
