The White-winged Brushfinch is a montane species in Ecuador, occurring mainly along the inter-Andean valleys and western slopes from about 1,500 to 3,000 m in dry forests, scrub, and agricultural edges. It is fairly common in suitable habitat, often seen in pairs or small groups foraging on the ground or low vegetation for seeds and insects. The species is currently assessed as Least Concern by the IUCN, though localized habitat loss and fragmentation may affect populations. Its bold white wing patches and lively behavior make it a conspicuous member of Ecuador’s highland bird communities.
