Violet-headed Hummingbird

The Violet-headed Hummingbird is a localized resident of eastern Ecuador, inhabiting humid lowland and foothill forests from about 200 to 1,200 m. It is generally uncommon but can be seen at forest edges, clearings, and flowering shrubs, where it feeds on nectar and supplements its diet with small insects. The species is currently assessed as Least Concern by the IUCN, though ongoing deforestation in Amazonian foothills may cause local declines. Its glittering violet crown and lively foraging behavior make it one of the most striking small hummingbirds of Ecuador’s Amazonian region.
