The Golden-olive Woodpecker is a widespread resident across Ecuador, ranging from lowland foothills to highland forests up to about 3,000 m. It occurs in a variety of wooded habitats, including humid and dry forests, forest edges, and even semi-open agricultural areas, making it one of the more adaptable woodpeckers in the country. The species is considered fairly common and is assessed as Least Concern by the IUCN, with no major threats identified despite localized habitat loss. Its striking golden-olive plumage and lively drumming make it a conspicuous and charismatic member of Ecuador’s avifauna.
