Grallariidae - Antpittas
The Yellow-breasted Antpitta occurs along the Pacific slope of the northern Ecuadorian Andes, particularly in humid montane forests of Pichincha and adjacent provinces, typically between 1,500 and 2,350 meters. It is generally rare and elusive, favoring steep ravines and streamside thickets, where it forages quietly in the understory and occasionally responds to feeding stations. The species is listed as Least Concern by the IUCN, with a stable population across its limited range in Colombia and Ecuador. Natural history observations highlight its plump, short-tailed form, soft three-parted whistle, and preference for dense, mossy forest interiors, though its breeding biology remains poorly documented.
