Furnariidae - Woodcreepers
The Montane Woodcreeper occurs widely across Ecuador’s Andean slopes, inhabiting humid montane and cloud forests typically between 1,000 and 3,500 meters. It is generally uncommon but regularly encountered, often seen climbing mossy trunks and large branches in search of arthropods, and occasionally joining mixed-species flocks. The species is listed as Least Concern by the IUCN, with a broad Andean range and a population that, while decreasing modestly, remains stable overall. Natural history observations highlight its slim, decurved bill, streaked plumage, and preference for mature forest interiors, with nesting behavior still poorly documented but likely involving cavities in dead wood.
