Gould’s Jewelfront is a localized hummingbird of eastern Ecuador, inhabiting humid lowland and foothill forests from near sea level up to about 1,200 m. It is generally uncommon but can be encountered at forest edges and clearings, where it forages for nectar from tubular flowers and supplements its diet with small insects. The species is currently assessed as Least Concern by the IUCN, though ongoing deforestation in Amazonian forests may cause local declines. Its glittering emerald breast and fiery orange belly make it one of the most striking and memorable hummingbirds of Ecuador’s Amazonian region.
