The Bare-necked Fruitcrow occurs in eastern Ecuador, where it inhabits humid lowland Amazonian forests, especially near rivers and seasonally flooded woodlands below about 600 meters. Though generally uncommon, it is locally present in suitable habitat, often seen perched high in the canopy or gliding between fruiting trees in small, vocal groups. The species is listed as Least Concern by the IUCN, with a broad Amazonian range and a population that is slowly declining but not currently threatened. Natural history observations highlight its frugivorous diet, striking bare-necked appearance in males, and presumed cavity-nesting behavior, though detailed breeding ecology remains poorly documented.
