Passerellidae - New World Sparrows
The Yellow-throated Chlorospingus occurs in the humid foothill and lower montane forests of eastern Ecuador, typically between 600 and 1,800 meters, where it favors dense understory and forest edges. It is generally uncommon but regularly observed in mixed-species flocks, foraging actively for insects and fruit in low to mid-level vegetation. The species is listed as Least Concern by the IUCN, with a broad range across the eastern Andes and a stable population, though deforestation may pose localized threats. Natural history observations highlight its bright yellow throat, social behavior, and cup-shaped nests built in concealed vegetation, with breeding activity peaking during the rainy season.
