The Golden-tailed Sapphire occurs in eastern Ecuador, where it inhabits humid lowland and foothill forests, forest edges, and degraded former woodlands between roughly 400 and 1,200 meters. Though generally uncommon, it is locally present in suitable habitat, often seen foraging solitarily at mid-levels and favoring flowering trees such as Inga and Erythrina. The species is listed as Least Concern by the IUCN, with a stable population trend and a broad Amazonian range that buffers it from immediate threats. Natural history observations highlight its sedentary nectarivorous lifestyle, occasional insect capture, and oviparous reproduction, though nesting behavior remains poorly documented.
