In Ecuador, the Spectacled Redstart is a common and lively resident of humid montane forests and stunted treeline habitats, typically found between 2,000 and 3,500 meters on both Andean slopes. With slaty-gray upperparts, bright yellow underparts, and bold yellow spectacles, it flits energetically through the understory and mid-canopy, often fanning its white-edged tail while foraging for insects. It frequently joins mixed-species flocks and is especially active along forest edges and mossy ravines. Despite some habitat loss, its population remains stable and is listed as Least Concern by the IUCN, making it a familiar sight in Ecuador’s highland reserves.
