The Thick-billed Euphonia occurs widely in western Ecuador, inhabiting lowland and foothill forests, forest edges, and secondary growth typically below 1,200 meters. It is generally common and conspicuous, often seen in pairs or small groups foraging in the canopy for fruit, especially mistletoe berries, and occasionally insects. The species is listed as Least Concern by the IUCN, with a broad Neotropical range and a stable population that thrives in disturbed habitats and cultivated areas. Natural history observations highlight its rich vocalizations, sexual dimorphism—with males showing bright yellow underparts and dark blue upperparts—and its compact, domed nest often hidden in dense vegetation.
