Tyrannidae - Tyrant Flycatchers
The Drab Water Tyrant (Ochthornis littoralis) occurs in eastern Ecuador, where it inhabits lowland Amazonian riverbanks, steep shores, and debris-laden islands below about 400 meters. Though generally uncommon, it is locally present and often seen perched low near water, making short sallies to catch insects in flight or on exposed roots and driftwood. The species is listed as Least Concern by the IUCN, with a broad western Amazonian range and a stable population, though its specialized habitat makes it vulnerable to riverine disturbance. Natural history observations highlight its year-round residency, cryptic sandy-brown plumage, and preference for solitary or paired foraging along dynamic river edges.
