The White-winged Swallow is a sleek, aerial insectivore found year-round in Ecuador’s eastern lowlands, where it frequents rivers, oxbow lakes, and other freshwater habitats below about 600 meters. It is locally common along forested waterways, often seen in small flocks skimming low over the water or perching on exposed branches and snags. Globally listed as Least Concern, its population is stable across a broad Amazonian range, though it is absent west of the Andes. Nesting occurs in natural cavities or crevices near water, and its graceful flight and crisp white wing markings make it a distinctive presence in riparian landscapes.
