Thraupidae - Tanagers and Allies
The Scrub Tanager occurs in the Andean regions of southern Colombia and northern Ecuador, where it inhabits subtropical and tropical moist montane forests, high-altitude shrublands, and heavily degraded former forest typically between 1,500 and 2,800 meters. It is generally uncommon but locally present, often seen in pairs or small flocks foraging for fruit and insects in edge habitats and secondary growth. The species is listed as Least Concern by the IUCN, with a stable population and a broad range that does not currently approach vulnerability thresholds. Natural history observations highlight its adaptability to disturbed landscapes and its preference for shrubby, open forest margins, though nesting behavior remains poorly documented.
