The Chestnut-bellied Thrush occurs in humid montane forests along both slopes of the Ecuadorian Andes, typically between 1,400 and 2,600 meters, where it favors forest canopy and edges. It is generally uncommon and solitary, often seen foraging among branches or leaf litter for invertebrates, and occasionally singing from high perches with a series of disjointed phrases and trills. The species is listed as Least Concern by the IUCN, with a broad Andean range and a presumed large population, though habitat degradation may be contributing to a slow decline. Natural history observations highlight its distinctive rufous belly, quiet behavior, and preference for undisturbed forest, with nesting likely in concealed sites during the rainy season.
