The Peruvian Racket-tail is found on the eastern slopes of the Andes in Ecuador, where it inhabits humid to wet montane forests and forest edges between roughly 600 and 2,200 meters, occasionally reaching elevations up to 4,000 meters. Though its distribution is patchy, it is locally numerous in suitable habitat, often foraging 6–18 meters above ground and favoring nectar-rich trees like Inga and Clusia. The species is listed as Least Concern by the IUCN, with a stable population and no immediate threats identified. Natural history records note seasonal elevational movements post-breeding, solitary nesting on horizontal twigs, and a diet supplemented by aerial insect capture.
