The Maroon-tailed Parakeet is a montane species in Ecuador, occurring along both Andean slopes from about 1,000 to 3,000 m in humid forests, forest edges, and secondary growth. It is fairly common in suitable habitat, often seen in noisy flocks flying over valleys or feeding on fruits, seeds, and flowers in the canopy. The species is currently assessed as Least Concern by the IUCN, though localized deforestation and habitat fragmentation may affect some populations. Its lively social behavior and flashes of maroon in the tail make it a conspicuous member of Ecuador’s Andean avifauna.
