The Blue-and-white Swallow is a widespread aerial insectivore found year-round across Ecuador, from lowland towns to highland valleys up to 4,000 meters, favoring open habitats such as forest edges, clearings, farms, and urban areas. It is locally common and often seen in small flocks, darting gracefully through the air to catch insects, especially near water or during termite swarms. Globally listed as Least Concern, its population is large but slowly declining, likely due to habitat changes and urban expansion. Nesting typically occurs in natural crevices or man-made structures, and its adaptability to human-altered landscapes makes it one of Ecuador’s most familiar and resilient swallows.
