The White-necked Jacobin is a dazzling hummingbird found year-round in Ecuador’s humid lowland and foothill forests, especially on both slopes of the Andes below about 900 meters. It is locally common in forest edges, clearings, and gardens, where males flash their iridescent blue heads and white bellies while feeding at flowering trees or feeders. Globally listed as Least Concern, its population remains stable across a broad Neotropical range. Breeding occurs in the wet season, with females building small cup nests on sheltered branches, while males—true to hummingbird custom—play no role in parental care.
