The Black-throated Mango is a striking hummingbird found in western Ecuador, where it frequents lowland forests, forest edges, gardens, and mangroves, typically below 1,000 meters elevation. It is locally common and often seen perched conspicuously or feeding on nectar and insects, with males displaying bold black-and-green plumage and females marked by a central dark stripe on white underparts. Globally listed as Least Concern by the IUCN, its population is considered stable across its broad range, though habitat loss may pose localized threats. Breeding occurs year-round in some areas, with nests built in sheltered spots and both sexes contributing to parental care.
