Blue-headed Parrot

The Blue-headed Parrot is a medium-sized, green-bodied parrot with a vivid blue head, found year-round in Ecuador’s humid lowland and foothill forests, especially on the eastern slope below about 1,200 meters. It is locally common in terra firme and secondary forests, often seen in small, noisy flocks feeding on fruits, seeds, and occasionally grain, and roosting communally in tall trees at dusk. Globally listed as Least Concern, its population is stable across a wide Neotropical range, though it may be affected by localized deforestation. Nesting occurs in tree cavities, where the female lays three to five white eggs, and both parents help raise the altricial young.
