The Rusty-margined Flycatcher is a widespread resident of western Ecuador, occurring from sea level up to about 1,500 m in open woodlands, forest edges, and agricultural areas. It is fairly common in suitable habitat, often perching conspicuously while sallying out to catch insects or feeding on fruits. The species is currently assessed as Least Concern by the IUCN, with stable populations across its range despite localized habitat loss. Its bold plumage and loud calls make it a familiar and conspicuous member of Ecuador’s lowland bird communities.
