In Ecuador, the Blue-winged Mountain-Tanager is a vibrant and fairly common resident of humid montane forests and forest edges, typically found between 1,200 and 2,500 meters on both Andean slopes. With its bold yellow underparts, black upperparts, and electric blue wings and tail, it often joins mixed-species flocks, foraging actively in the mid to upper canopy. Some eastern slope populations show a mossy green back, hinting at subtle regional variation. Its population is stable and listed as Least Concern by the IUCN, making it a reliable and charismatic fixture of Ecuador’s cloud forest birdlife.
