The Bronzy Inca occurs along the eastern Andean slopes of Ecuador, particularly between 1,800 and 3,200 meters, where it inhabits humid montane forests and forest edges. It is considered fairly common within suitable habitat, often seen foraging solitarily or defending nectar-rich shrubs in mid-level understory. The species is listed as Least Concern by the IUCN, though its population is suspected to be slowly declining due to ongoing forest loss and fragmentation. A sedentary nectarivore, it shows no migratory behavior, and its nesting habits remain poorly documented, though moss-lined nests in sheltered forest sites are presumed typical.
