The Uniform Antshrike is a scarce resident of western Ecuador, occurring mainly in humid lowland and foothill forests of the Chocó region from near sea level up to about 800 m. It is typically found in dense understory, moving quietly in pairs or small family groups as it forages for insects and other arthropods. The species is considered uncommon and patchily distributed, and due to ongoing deforestation in its restricted range, it is assessed as Near Threatened by the IUCN. Its plain plumage and secretive habits make it an easily overlooked but ecologically important member of Ecuador’s forest bird community.
