The Crimson-breasted Finch is a localized resident of southwestern Ecuador, occurring mainly in dry valleys and scrubby habitats from about 300 to 1,500 m. It is generally uncommon and patchily distributed, often seen in pairs or small groups foraging on seeds and insects in open, arid environments. The species is currently assessed as Near Threatened by the IUCN, as its restricted range and ongoing habitat loss pose significant risks to its populations. Its striking crimson breast and preference for dry scrub make it a distinctive yet vulnerable member of Ecuador’s avifauna.
