The Orange-winged Amazon is a robust, green parrot found year-round in Ecuador’s eastern lowland rainforests, particularly within the Amazon basin below about 800 meters. Though generally uncommon, it occurs in small flocks that forage in the canopy for fruits, seeds, and blossoms, and may visit clay licks to aid digestion. Globally listed as Least Concern, its population is suspected to be declining due to habitat loss and trapping, but it remains widespread across northern South America. Nesting in tree cavities, this species is known for its loud, nasal calls and flashes of orange in the wings during flight, adding color and character to the forest canopy.
