The Tropical Mockingbird is a relatively recent colonist in Ecuador, first recorded in 1996 and now expanding rapidly through western lowlands and inter-Andean valleys, where it favors open and disturbed habitats such as urban parks, gardens, and agricultural areas. It is locally common in suitable environments, often seen perched conspicuously while delivering its varied, melodious song or aggressively defending territory. The species is listed as Least Concern by the IUCN, with a broad Neotropical range and a population benefiting from human-altered landscapes. Natural history observations highlight its remarkable vocal mimicry, adaptability to urban and semi-open habitats, and cup-shaped nests placed in shrubs or small trees, often near human activity.
