Furnariidae - Woodcreepers
The Buff-throated Woodcreeper (Xiphorhynchus guttatus) occurs in eastern Ecuador, where it inhabits humid lowland forests, especially mature terra firme and seasonally flooded várzea below about 800 meters. Though generally uncommon, it is locally present in suitable Amazonian habitat, often seen climbing trunks and large branches in search of insects and small arthropods. The species is listed as Least Concern by the IUCN due to its broad range and relatively stable population, though deforestation continues to pose a long-term threat. Natural history observations highlight its solitary foraging behavior, distinctive vocalizations, and nesting in tree cavities, with breeding likely timed to coincide with peak insect abundance.
