Tityridae - Tityras and Becards
The White-browed Purpletuft occurs in eastern Ecuador, where it inhabits the canopy of humid lowland Amazonian forests, particularly near Sani Lodge and other riverine sites below about 600 meters. It is generally rare and patchily distributed, often overlooked due to its quiet behavior and tendency to perch high in the canopy, usually singly or in pairs. The species is listed as Least Concern by the IUCN, with a broad Amazonian range, though its population is suspected to be decreasing modestly due to ongoing deforestation. Natural history observations highlight its subtle vocalizations, distinctive facial markings, and hidden purple flank tufts, with breeding biology still poorly understood.
