The Buff-fronted Foliage-gleaner occurs in humid montane forests along the eastern slope of the Ecuadorian Andes, typically between 800 and 2,400 meters, where it favors dense understory and vine tangles in mature and secondary growth forests. It is generally uncommon but regularly observed, often foraging in pairs or as part of mixed-species flocks, using its strong bill to pry insects and larvae from bark and dead leaves. The species is listed as Least Concern by the IUCN, with a stable population across its Andean range, though it may be sensitive to habitat degradation. Natural history observations highlight its warm brown plumage, buffy facial markings, and secretive behavior, with nesting presumed to occur in concealed sites during the rainy season.
