White-tipped Dove

The White-tipped Dove is a widespread resident across Ecuador, inhabiting dry forests, scrublands, agricultural zones, and even well-vegetated urban areas from lowlands to foothills. It is common and conspicuous, often seen singly or in pairs foraging on the ground for seeds and fallen fruits, and is known for its slow, deliberate gait and soft, mournful coo. Globally listed as Least Concern due to its vast range and stable population, it shows strong adaptability to human-altered landscapes. Nesting in low trees or shrubs, both sexes share incubation duties, and its resilience makes it one of the more successful native doves in Ecuador’s mosaic of habitats.
