THE CONDOR PROGRAMME - 2 DAYS
|
This extraordinary adventure will take place in an area practically still virgin and unknown to visitors. One of the principle attractions here are the spectacular San Rafeal falls; a unique natural display in the immense jungle. On this trip it will be possible to camp and observe the exuberant fauna; spectacled bear, tapir and the famous Andean cock of the rock, of the high Amazon region. |

Day 01.- Quito - Antizana Ecological Reserve
We leave from Quito towards Volcano Antisana in the eastern mountain range where up to 90 different bird species have been registered ranging from the worlds largest bird; the condor to the smallest, a hummingbird. Also visible in this area are: Andean hawks, falcones, gavilanes, curiquingues , ducks, gaviotas and more. Antisana is a region located at 3000m; its vegetation is comprised of paramo and sotobosque . We will set up camp at 4000m and do an afternoon hike in the area with a sensational view of Volcano Antisana behind us the whole time. Afterwards we return to camp for dinner and sleep in tents. Day 02.-
After breakfast we move onto a small Polylepis forest at 3800m where we can encounter yet again new types of birds in their natural habitat. Our journey will take us to a high point where we will start our descent into fields of lava and valleys created by Antisana´s last eruption that can still be appreciated in their entirety. It is in this environment that vegetation starts to develop in abundance. From here we continue all the way to the road which will return us to Quito. Afternoon lunch on route and an evening arrival in Quito. End of tour. B/L/-
